Avoid These 7 Commercial Moving Mistakes

Planning a commercial move is a lengthy process, and there are several things you should know before you begin!  Today, we’re breaking down some serious mistakes you should avoid as you plan your office move.

Make sure you give your commercial mover plenty of time to help you plan the process. You should bring them into the process at least 30 days before your goal move date. 

Mistake #2: Moving during summer

As you plan, try to avoid moving your office during the summer months, which is a much time busier for movers. This is because many movers are engaged in moving households during this time.

Mistake #3: Moving while your new space is still being built or renovated

Make sure that your new space is finished and ready for your belongings before you move your office. It will be a mess if you try to have tradespeople working on finishing your office and movers working to place your belongings in the same space at the same time.

Mistake #4: Not contacting your property managers

Talking to the property managers at your current office and your future office is an important part of the moving process. You’ll want to talk to them about the move-out and move-in requirements, so your commercial mover can make sure to help you in meeting these requirements.  

Mistake #5: Leaving your staff out of the moving process

If you want a smooth move, you’ll need to have solid communication with everyone involved in the moving process, especially your staff members. Make sure your mover conducts a pre-moving meeting with your staff. We’ve found that a better understanding of the move by all parties makes for a successful relocation.

Mistake #6: Ignoring the need for a space plan

As part of the planning process, you’ll need to make sure that you create a space plan ahead of time that shows where you’ll want the furniture in your new office. Bring your mover into this process, so they can plan ahead and be sure in where they’re placing your furniture. Without it, you’ll find your new office in a state of disarray.

Mistake #7: Failing to clean out the office ahead of time
